ZEBRA CAKE INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 kg all-purpose flour (African measurements)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ⅓ teaspoon vanilla powder (can substitute ½ teaspoon vanilla extract)
- 4 large eggs
- 1/4 kg gradulated sugar
- 1/2 liter milk
- 1/2 vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
DIRECTIONS WITH PICTURES
1.Mix the dry ingredients ~In a medium bowl, combine the flour, vanilla powder, and baking powder. Set aside
2.Mix the wet ingredients~ In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the eggs and sugar, beat until creamy.
4.Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and beat,until the batter is smooth and the dry ingredients are thoroughly mixed.Do not over-beat,The batter should be neither very thick nor too loose.
5.Divide the mixture into two equal portions(bowls). Keep one portion plain.Then,Add the cocoa powder to the other portion to form chocolate mix and stir to blend.
BAKING
1.Preheat the oven to 350ºF
3.Pouring the batter into the baking tin-Scoop the plain batter mix, then use the similar sized large spoon, scoop the chocolate mix Pour at the center of the white mix .(Do not spread the batter or tilt the pan to distribute the mixture—it will spread and fill the pan naturally)
4.Continue pouring the batter alternatively (plain,chocolate)until they finish.Allow to spread naturally.
5.Bake on the middle rack of the oven for about 40 minutes,{don't open /shake the oven door for at least 20 mins or the cake will collapse}
-Check If the cake has turned brown and insert the toothpick into the center, If the toothpick has come out clean/dry then your cake is ready.
