Ingredients for Half Cake Recipe
- All Purpose flour 2 cups
- Sugar 1/2 cup (add according to your preference)
- Baking powder 2 teaspoon
- Baking Soda 1/2 teaspoon
- Margarine/ unsalted butter 3 tablespoon
- Milk 1/2 cup
- Eggs 2 whisked
- Vanilla 1 teaspoon
- Cardamon seeds (Iliki)1 teaspoon
- Oil for fry
STEP BY STEP DIRECTIONS WITH PICTURES
- Mix together the dry ingredients, (Flour, sugar,baking soda,baking powder, iliki) and sift them into a bowl.
- Add butter and rub in well to get mixture of fine crumbs(Scroll down to See the photos)
- Create a well in the middle and Add egg and vanilla
- Add milk, mix and knead for 5 mins to form a dough, the dough should be elastic,soft and should not stick to your hands.
- After creating a dough ball, place the dough in a bowl, cover and let it rise for 40 minutes.(See the picture below)
- Lightly flour your working surface and place the dough, Roll the dough using rolling pin to spread the dough into disc shape.
- Cut it into the shape of diamond/square and place the squares on floured baking sheet (see below)
- Heat Oil in a deep frying pan (medium to low heat)
- Gently add the square pieces into hot oil do not overfill the frying pan, wait till bottom is golden brown then turn over the other side to cook well.
- Remove the half cakes and put it in a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Before adding the next batch of squares (half cakes), remove oil from heat so that temperature is cooled down a little then bring it back to heat to add more squares to fry
- After finishing frying all batches, half cakes now are ready, serve with Tea,milk,soda.
